From the Dean of The University of Pennsylvania

We recently watched a short video of Eric Furda speaking. Eric was the Dean of Admissions at the University of Pennsylvania from 2008-2020. One important message he gives to future engineering students is that the faculty at Penn's engineering school prefer that students take two physics classes during high school since it's so fundamental to future engineering studies.

Are you a future engineer? If so, will you be taking two physics classes during high school? There's so much to consider when selecting high school classes, which is why so many students request guidance in the process.

At the very least, most top universities like to see students taking core classes for four years in the following subjects: English, Math, Science, History, and Foreign Language. Many of our students are surprised to find that these recommended courses are more than what their high school requires for graduation.

It's much easier if a student knows what they want to study in the future, of course. But even if students are undecided, they can take many steps towards clarifying their interests and forging a path towards their future goals.
