The Resume Writing Kit

extracurricular activities Aug 30, 2023
Many high school seniors will be submitting a resume to colleges this fall. Are you planning to do so?

Even though it’s optional, submitting a resume will help you stand out from the crowd. The activity section of the common app allows students to input up to 10 extracurricular activities, along with a one-line description for each activity.

High-achieving students have worked hard throughout high school and a meager 10 lines isn't enough to showcase their achievements!

This is why many colleges have space on the common app for students to attach a PDF of their resume. A high school student's resume is designed to impress admissions officers, and it is very different from an adult's career resume. If you missed The Resume Writing Kit last week, you can still sign up and view the recording.

Here's what you will learn:

  • How to create a resume in an easy-to-read format for admissions officers
  • How to showcase extracurricular activities, summer experiences, and employment
  • How to double-emphasize achievements, honors, and awards
  • How to showcase special talents if you're an artist or musician
  • How to submit your resume to colleges if they do not provide a space on the common app to upload your resume

In addition, you will receive:

  • A sample resume
  • A resume template
  • A sample music resume
  • A sample art resume
  • A video recording of the session
